OK I know this does not apply to most of us that knows to stay off of the trails after it rains so dont give me any crap about posting this on the Sorba Forum but hopefully some people will read this that was out on the trails at Fort Yargo Sunday Afternoon.

Eric Bentley (park ranger) called me at 4:30 pm to let me know their was about 20 mountain bikers out on the trails and he was not happy. For the most part it was just your locals(this will be posted in the Barrow county news as well) but he also told me their was some hard core guys out their as well. This disturbs me. Why is it that when all the other trail systems in
north ga are closed due to rain by some peoples standards it OK to go ride yargo. From now on if its rained within the last 24 hrs. dont bother to go to yargo because the staff and park rangers will run you off.

I am setting up a page on our web site that will tell you when the trails are open and when they are closed please spread the word to all your friends that they need to check the web site http://www.yaba.homestead.com
before going to Fort Yargo if it has Rained within the last 24 hrs. in the area or they can call the parks office at (770) 867-3489 to find out if the
trails are open

We are gonna put up gates at the trail heads this includes B area also if those gates are closed do not ride the trails. Our trails are no different than any other trail system in ga if it rains Don't ride the trails.

I have put in countless hrs. building Fort Yargos Trails along with the rest of YABA and I am hear to tell you now I dont care anything about having to fix trails that have been tore up due to irrisponsable Mountain Bikers
I would rather be riding the trails not fixing them all the time due to people riding wet trails.

Well its been a while since I posted but pretty much trail conditions
have been great for a while since we have had little on no rain in a while. The trails remain a little sandy so watch out in the curves.
The only problem place right now is in the new section. Their is a place right before you get out as far as you can go toward hwy. 11
its a stretch of trail holding water. We plan on trenching out a place for the water to go.
Thanks Commander for the comments we had a blast at the dirty
spokes race our YABA team came in third in 4 man. This winter we plan on doing some reroutes around congested areas such as the putt-putt section and the long bridge that crosses the lake will be
taken out. The bridge section will be rerouted around the outside of the lake so we don't disturb the fisherman
The putt-put section will change dramatically you will no longer cross the road before the putt-putt section it will instead climb the hill next to the road thin cross at the stop sign on the main road coming into the beach area. The next section after the road crossing is gonna remind you of chicopee its gonna have lots of climbing and descending it will tie back into the old section across
the road from the putt-putt course.

their has been 2 changes made.

1st in the new section when you are close to hwy 11 their was 2 mud holes where the water had no where to go so we rerouted it to higher ground be careful coming in clockwise to this section it now has an abrupt turn and you will overshoot it if you
have not been in their since the trail was moved.

2ed going clockwise after the new section you cross over an old roadbed
when you start descending this section their was a bad section of trail that had eroded due to people flying down through their and locking up their brakes when they got their this section has been taken out and rerouted

one other thing their is a new trail head going out the backside of the parking lot across from the tennis courts please use this instead of going up and down the road only get on the road to cross the bridge.

As far as trail conditions go its been pretty good lately the only real problem area we have now is the privet section (low Lying Area)
which will be bypassed this winter.

Great ride, better directionals

Postby gilpin719 on October 14th, 2007, 6:37 pm

Fort Yargo is a fantastic trail. It combines technical with endurance. The gas line is a rush. If your looking for a "cardo" day to test your skill this trail is a must! We would like to see better directionals. We have rode this trail twice in the past month and still had some questions as to which direction to go. Better signs during the ride would enhance this already good trail.

Fort Yargo Trail Closure

Postby overthetop on October 15th, 2007, 8:57 am

After talking with Eric Bentley this Morning the trails at Fort Yargo will be open Monday And Tuesday but the section called graveyard hill will be diverted Tuesday you will see the signs directing you to go around this section due to Kudzu eradication program. The park does not want to close down the trails completely because they know that mountain biking is a major part of Fort Yorgo's user group. Sorry for the Inconvenience.
